We all know that business cards are the key to making sure your name gets remembered. You hand out hundreds, if not thousands, in the hope that when someone needs your products or services, they will have the information they need to contact you.
Here are some ways to use business cards to their fullest potential:
- Include an offer on your business cards - For mere pennies each, you can inform everyone of a special offer you have currently available, a new service you are offering, or a sale at your store.
- Include many ways for people to contact you - Address, phone, fax, cell, e-mail. We all have most of these things, but how many of them appear on your business cards? By offering all the ways you have made available for customers to contact you, you give them the option to use the method that is most comfortable for them, and that makes them more likely to contact you. Some people, in their busy lives, can't get away from the computer, so e-mailing someone is their best option. Others still believe the best way to contact people is the tried and true smile and a handshake method.
- Business cards have 2 sides - Use the back! Printing on the 2nd side usually doesn't increase your cost substantially, and gives you another 7 square inches to promote yourself, your company, your products and your services.
- Start a Referral System - Give some of your business cards to your customers. Write their initials on each card, and have them give them out to their customers, or at their networking get togethers. When those people contact you, and become your customer, reward your referrer with a gift, or discounts on future projects. This will give them an incentive to spread your name for you.
- Hand your business cards out to everyone - Wherever your business is, your business cards should be there as well. Every time a customer purchases your products, give them a card. Whenever you deliver a proposal or estimate, give them a card. When you meet someone for the first time, and they ask what you do for a living, give them a card. Not only does it reinforce the identity of your company with your customers, but it also increases the likelihood they will pass on your card to others who may need your products or services.
- Always carry your cards around - We've all had that moment where someone has asked us for a card, and we didn't have one on us because we didn't think we'd need them going to McDonald's. You never know when business is going to fall into your lap, so be prepared!
As always, xclntDesign can assist you with all of your business card needs. Drop us a line and find out how! |

Advertising in a Down Economy |
|
|
|
|
Things aren't looking good. Massive layoffs means less people have money to spend, which in turn hurts businesses, who layoff more people, and the vicious cycle continues.
In this type of economy, prioritizing your spending becomes even more important. Obviously you want to make payroll every pay period. And paying leases on equipment and buildings is equally as important.
One spot that gets overlooked in a down economy is advertising. For most small businesses, that's a "when the money is there" option. And that is the exact opposite of how it should be.
When the economy is down, you need to appeal to consumers more for two reasons:
- Keeping your business afloat in the present - In order for you to keep making payroll, and paying all of the other expenses related to your business, you need a steady flow of income. Because of the down economy, you may have lost some of your more dependable customers. You need to find new ones, and effective advertising is the best way to get them.
- Preparing for the future - Say you decide to hold off on advertising until the economy recovers and people have a little bit more in their pocket to spend. If people have the money to spend, generally they will, and may be willing to spend a little more on a product or service other than yours if they feel they are getting a better deal. If you appeal to customers in a down economy, you are likely to win them over and will be loyal to you because "you were there when they needed you."
Effective advertising can achieve many goals, no matter the state of the economy.
Analyze your budget carefully and figure out exactly how much you can spare for advertising. Then come see the professionals at xclntDesign and let them show you how to get the most out of every penny. |
